The
Priest and the Medium
The
Priest and the Medium
Suzanne Giesemann
PB AUD24.95
At the heart of this book is a
love story of two people who at first glance
you would not imagine together.
She, (Anne) is a medium who gave
her first psychic reading to her teddy bears
at the age of 5. He, (Wayne) was ordained as
a Jesuit Priest after joining the order during
his senior school.
Combine this with the author (Suzanne
Giesemann) who also has an interesting background,
(Former Navy Commander who served as Commanding
Officer and aide to the Chairman of the Join
Chiefs of Staff on 9/11), and you have the mix
for an interesting read.
The layout of the book is clever.
Each chapter moves from Anne to Wayne in a seamless
manner and you have the sense of the deep personal
feelings and fears they both harbor as they
go about their lives and their very different
spiritual practices. It wasn't until I got to
the end that I was able to reflect on how similar
in some ways their early years had been!
I don't want to give away the
story line but my heart soared with the perfect
timing and grace of the universe when a mutual
friend introduced Anne and Wayne to each other.
It was pure magic to read and I found my self-racing
through the pages to get to 'the moment'.
The book concludes with a conversation
between Anne, Wayne and Suzanne. They reflect
on their daily lives and how they have integrated
their own beliefs with the other. It is rich,
filled with humour and you sense the deep love
and respect they have for each other.
The book concludes with
some discussion questions for a reading group.
What an excellent way to start your 2010 reading
group!
